Purdue Model

The Purdue Model describes a framework design of OT network environments. It consists of several layers, from #Level 0 to #Level 5.

Level 0

Also known as the "Process" or "Physical" layer, this is where the sensors and actuators reside. Sensors gather information from the physical processes, such as temperature or pressure sensors and actuators interact with the physical world in various ways (such as motors, valves and relays). Assets at this level typically operate in "real-time" meaning that they must respond to changes in the physical processes promptly.

Level 1

Individual process/cell/line controllers.

Level 2

Individual process/cell/line supervisory.

Level 3

Plant-wide control network.

Level 4

This level contains all enterprise IT assets.

Level 5
