⚠️Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP)

A HAZOP systematically identifies all hazardous events emanating from a process or utility system.

This is done by:

  • identifying the causes of hazardous events

  • determining their consequences

  • identifying the safeguards in place

  • making recommendations for additional actions.

Types of HAZOPs

  • Process HAZOP: For continuous or batch processes, following the process flow. Based primarily on P&IDs but supported by other documents.

  • Procedural HAZOP: Follows the steps in a procedure to identify hazardous scenarios.

  • Computer or Controls HAZOP (cHAZOP): Looks at what hazardous scenarios can be caused by the control system
